Picture this: You come home from a long day at work, you rush the kids off to their activities, bring them home and sit them down with their homework and then your personal chef calls you to the dinner table and serves you and your family a hot and satisfying home-made meal. Wait, what was that last part? Yeah, I know. That will never happen. Wishful thinking. But what if there was actually a way to come home to a hot and ready-to-eat meal? Well there is!
I would like to introduce you to that under-utilized kitchen appliance known as the crock pot. I know you have one. Everyone does. If you can’t find it, try looking in that stack of wedding gifts you haven’t opened yet or in that one cabinet in your kitchen where unused appliances go to die. Yes, there it is. I can see it now, tossed behind the salad spinner and the fondue pot. Now, if you uncover a crock pot that is no bigger than your shoe and has little retro-looking flowers painted on it, it’s about time you upgraded to a real crock pot. Seriously, get with the times.
Now I’m writing this blog because I really do love my crock pot. Why wouldn’t I? It practically does all of the work for me. The night before I want to serve my meal, I simply chuck a bunch of ingredients into the pot and plop the lid on. In the morning, I turn it on. Its just that easy. I literally just set it and forget it. I’m pretty sure I just ripped off that phrase from an infomercial, but anyway, it’s true. I come home in the evening to a hot meal ready to be served.
Crock pot cooking has come a long way since the era of little flowered crock pots and some surprising dishes are being created and served for more than just dinner. Check out some of the interesting and delicious crock pot recipes we found. Enjoy!
This recipe only needs 15 minutes of prep time! Woo hoo! Lasagna is always a crowd pleaser and making it in a crock pot is so easy! This recipe adds in some spinach for a healthy kick, but experiment by adding all kinds of veggies. Hint: if you chop up the veggies small enough, your kids won’t even know they’re in there!
Does your breakfast consist of a Pop-Tart and a cup of coffee? Do you wish you could make a more substantial breakfast to get your kid’s day off to a good start? Look no further! This breakfast recipe will keep everyone full and satisfied until lunch.
Forget waiting for summer and slaving over a hot grill to enjoy barbecued ribs. Make them any time of year in your crock pot! I love this recipe because it has you prepare extra ribs so the meat can be used on a BBQ pizza for another meal. If you’re really in a time crunch, simply pour your favorite BBQ sauce over the ribs instead of creating the sauce in the recipe.
This sweet Asian-glazed chicken is sure to please even the pickiest eaters in your family. Toss in some broccoli and serve over rice for a complete meal.
YUM. Need I say more? Keep your family at the dinner table a little bit longer by serving up this decadent dessert.
