Each month, the Rotary Club of Bensalem’s Student of the Month program recognizes the unique achievements of two students in the Bensalem School District. To be considered for the honor, students must possess a combination of high academic standards, community involvement and extracurricular activities.
On March 11, the Rotary honored Daniel Diaz-Boyona and Hannah Hartman as Students of the Month at their weekly luncheon meeting held at Michael’s Restaurant on Street Road. Daniel and Hannah, both seniors at Bensalem High School, were accompanied to the luncheon by Bensalem High School Athletic Director, Geoffrey Per and were introduced by Kathi Lacomchik of Visit Bucks County.
Daniel’s story is one of courage and perseverance. Originally from Columbia, Daniel left his home and his family behind to come to America for a better education. With no English speaking ability, Daniel found common ground with his teammates as a member of the school’s soccer team. He is known as a hardworking student and an asset to his team. Mr Per says he can always count on Daniel to light up the hallways of BHS with his smile and good spirits. Daniel utilizes these high spirited qualities when he suits up a a member of the BHS cheerleading squad. In the fall, Daniel plans to attend Bucks County Community College where he is sure to succeed in anything he puts his mind to.
For Hannah, this was the second time that she was chosen as a Rotary Student of the Month. Her academic skills are most impressive having achieved Principals List status in middle school and Honor Roll throughout high school. Hannah is also active in the BHS Arts & Crafts Club and has spent her time outside of school volunteering for various charitable organizations. She is also fluent in Japanese and hopes to one day study abroad in Japan and participate in the JET (Japanese English Teacher) program.
Hannah and Daniel are just two of the many incredible students that have been honored over the years by the Rotary Club of Bensalem and they look forward to recognizing the amazing achievements of many students to come.
