Each month, the Rotary Club of Bensalem’s Student of the Month program recognizes the unique achievements of two students in the Bensalem School District. To be considered for the honor, students must possess a combination of high academic standards, community involvement and extracurricular activities.

On May 6, the Rotary honored Brooke Herritt, Shivani Patel and Michael Jajko as Students of the Month at their weekly luncheon meeting held at Michael’s Restaurant on Street Road. Brooke, Shivani and Michael, all seniors at BHS, were introduced to those in attendance by Bensalem                                                                          High School’s 12th Grade Assistant Principal,                                                                            Lenore Hope.

Brooke was nominated for Student of the Month by the Art Department. She has been interested in art for many years and has taken numerous art classes at BHS. Brooke submitted a design for the 2014 senior class shield, which was chosen by Lenore Hope to represent this year’s graduating class. After graduation, Brooke will be attending community college with hopes of transferring to Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, where she will pursue her dreams of becoming an art teacher.

Shivani was nominated for Student of the Month by Jerilyn. Bowler of the Family and Consumer Sciences Department. She participates regularly in the school’s daycare program and is currently taking a child development class. In her free time, Shivani volunteers at her church working with children. She also enjoys dancing and often participates in BHS talent shows. Upon graduation, Shivani will be pursuing a degree in biology at Temple University followed by a physician’s assistant degree from Philadelphia University.

Michael was nominated for Student of the Month by the Industrial Arts Department. He is currently the lead engineer on a team of BHS students whose services have been called upon to construct an equipment shed for the school’s tennis team. Micheal has seized this opportunity to gain experience working with CAD design software and work as part of a team in a leadership role. In his free time, Michael enjoys working on his car and can often be found working at his job at the Bensalem Township Country Club. Michael is looking forward to attending community college after graduation and eventually moving on to a 4-year college once he decides on a career path to pursue.

Brooke, Shivani and Michael are just three of the many incredible students that have been honored over the years by the Rotary Club of Bensalem and they look forward to recognizing the amazing achievements of many students to come.
